Riverside Research, a nationally recognized leader in the development, presentation, and maintenance of DOD-approved training and education courses, recently contracted with Desire2Learn to establish a Learning Management System (LMS) that will extend the company’s course offering to the distance learning environment. “We are excited about the possibility to deliver our leading-edge, classroom-style curriculum in a blended learning environment that includes online applications for greater reach,” said Steve Yantko, Deputy Director for Planning and Programs in Riverside Research’s Education & Training Directorate. The company purchased the software license under its Independent Research and Development (IR&D) program.
Desire2Learn is a global leader in Cloud-based learning solutions with service to over 700 clients and more than 8 million learners in higher education, K-12, healthcare, government, and the corporate sector. “As a strategic initiative under our independent research and development program, we partnered with Desire2Learn to utilize their proven LMS called Learning Environment,” said Yantko. “It gives us the added capability to educate students remotely – anywhere at any time – by making our entire holding of accredited, unclassified curricula available online.”
Approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), Riverside Research offers continuing education units (CEUs) for courses administered in residence and via distance learning. IACET CEUs are recognized by a wide range of organizations, including professional associations, regulatory boards, corporations, and universities.
“Distance learning has made dramatic leaps forward over the past several years. It is the ideal continuing education option to accommodate the difficult balance between professional development, work schedules, and family responsibilities,” said Yantko.
Riverside Research will also use the Desire2Learn LMS to facilitate structured professional development for its employees, most of whom serve the Intelligence Community.
